External hard-drive question

Have a couple of old laptops - Dell, Toshiba, - and wondered if i could buy a single case to insert their hard-drives to access them on a Samsung NP350

for example - would this be any good ?

Most laptop HDDs are 2.5" rather than the 3.5" units found in desktop PCs. You should be able to remove and install the drives in 'caddys' without a lot of bother but first, especially if the laptops are very old, check the drives are SATA rather than the older PATA types - the connections are different. You could also use a dock if it proves to be more convenient.

By caddys you mean the external cases like in the Ebay link ?

There's a 3.5" from an old pc ( circa 2001 ) then a few 2.5" from laptops 2006-2010

Yes they are referred to as caddies.

You could try and find one which is IDE/SATA compatible then it does not matter.

being as you have both 2.5 and 3.5 a dock as suggested by johndrew

I have just purchased the first one on his list and it will do both IDE and SaTA and 2.5 or 3.5 drives so will do any drive removed from your machines.
