I have an external Iomega 320 gig hard drive (FAT32) however only 298 gigs is showing in Windows(XP), Belarc shows 320 gigs. Why does Win only show 298gigs?
The drive is correct, Windows way of size is different to manufactures
1 Gb. Strictly speaking, 1024 megabytes. But usually said to be 1000 megabytes as woodchip has said. It's just different ways of describing the size.
320,000,000,000/1024/1024/1024 = 298GB
thats cleared that up then - thanks
Strictly speaking, the drive is a 298GB drive or a 320,000,000,000 byte drive. But the manufacturers tend to be economical with the truth as it sounds better (by 22GB in your case).
