external drive enclosures

This will be a stupid question from a computer newby. I want to buy one of these enclosures. I see they have different sizes. How can I find the size of my hard drive from an old computer? It measures 4x5 3/4 inches so would it be a 3.5? Also it says IDE so do I just get one for this kind? Any info would be great. Thanks

LAptop drives are 2.5 desktop drives are 3.5

yours will be a 3.5 IDE HDD

Next decision is how do you want to connect to your PC USB2 or Firewire?

USB2 is probably the most universal method.

So click here is what you need.

i found click here to be very useful and all had to say was standard hard drive and they gave me the appropriate caddy for around £29 and it has been invaluable to me.

I recently bought on E-bay an external 3.5 Ide USB 2 enclosure with its own power supply unit for £13.00 including shipping from Hong Kong.
