EXCELL Task Pane removal

I have created a spreadsheet by altering a template. The only problem is that each time it starts up the task pane appears. How can I get it to start without the task pane appearing automatically. I have tied unticking show task pane on View.

go to "Tools" then options. and under the "View" tab in the show section un-tick the "Startup Task Pane"

Thanks BB22 I tried as you suggested but was already unticked. Using Office 2003 by the way.

Don't know what to say mate, I have 2003 as well and that does the trick for me. The only thing I can think of is maybe it won't do it because you're using a template.
I've just had a look and this might be worth reading. On the task pane if you type in the search for box "customise how excel starts" there is a section on there about saving settings in templates
