Excel Work Book duplicating in 2 windows

  Anakrino 15:31 05 Jun 2009

I use Excel with XP and have created a workbook (with three sheets) and saved the book in My Documents. But when I reopen the file it opens two of the same name only numbered xxx1 and xxx2.
If I change anything in 1 it automatically also appears in 2. I don't know what I did to cause this, but how can I delete this duplication as the My Documents listing only shows the one file name(without the 1 or 2) and in the open work book I cannot see any function to delete one of them.

There is an option in Excel's "Window" menu for "New Window". If you click this, you will have the same file open as separate windows named xxxx.xls:1 and xxxx.xls:2

However, there should also be two items in the Taskbar, so that you can right click and close the second unwanted window. You may also be able to close the second window in the normal way from its "X" in the top right corner.
