Excel simple formula shows #VALUE1

Have been using a simple formula (for checking my home bills /account):
=E1184+F1185-G1185
but at row 1186 instead of a figure it comes up with #NUMBER!
Why has this happened?

If it is #VALUE! do any of those cells contain text?

Try re-entering the values.

As you say I put a zero in F1185 which was empty and the #VALUE1 then disappeared. What I don't understand in many of the previous entries they had been left empty and it worked ok. Anyway I will know what to do if it happens again.
Many thanks.

The formula will work fine with empty cells.

I suspect that one of them actually contained a space which would cause that error.
