Excel message

Whenever I make an alteration in an Excel file and then save it I get a message "Excel for Windows has stopped working.... Excel will now close and will notify you if a solution is available". It closes; the file (and the alterations) are saved normally. So in practice there isn't a problem; but I'd like to be rid of this message. It's been occuring for several months.
My husband also uses Excel on the same computer but he has not seen this message when he Saves.
We don't have separate log-ins and our files are all stored in sub-folders of My Documents.
OS is Vista. Our Excel is part of Office 2000
