i have a list on excel i am trying to clean up - i need to find everything with (blu-ray) after a title and highlight it with an x next to it for a future dataload

i can do it with ctrl f and keep clicking next as i put an x against each one but there are 1000s of lines - is there a formula i can use to do this for me

Answer

Do you want the x to be in the next or subsequent column? If so you will find the basic formula

In Excel how to search a text string + get TRUE/FALSE result

In formula or True enter X and for False "" This will leave that cell blank where there is no blu-ray You can then copy by dragging down the formula in the new column

Brilliant - you have saved me hours, thanks !

Just to add I have found this formula the best:

=IF(ISERROR(SEARCH("blu-ray",A1)),"", "X")
