Please can anyone explain the following:

View - Toolbars - Customise

Select Commands Tab and Format left hand pane

In right pane there is a "Show or Hide" command with abc A icon.

First I cannot find out what it does and

Secondly I am unable to drag it to a toolbar, existing or new.

VoG™ if you are available please help.

Above started as a quest because I am looking for a toolbar button to Show or Hide worksheets. I have solved by dragging from menu. Also ASAP utilities provide a solution. However at work the Excel as everything else is very much restricted and we are not permitted to add in any programs or utilities.

and 2003!

Some others in that vicinity are in a similar vein. And I don't know the answer either!

Have you clicked on the "Description" button for the Selected Command....

It says ----

Show Phonetic Field
Show and Hide Furigana

Whatever that means.

Anyway, try searching Help for "Furigana" as I did, there's tons of stuff in there, and it's all about the phonetic (Furigana) characters in the Japanese version of Excel.

Way over my head, and obviously not what you are looking for.

I've looked at the option of a Custom Toolbar, with a view to putting some command buttons on it to show/hide sheets, and there doesn't seem to be those command options.

I think you will have to use vba code to achieve this. Not my strong point, and I'm sure someone will point you in the right direction.

Excel 2003 does not have a description button, but now that you mention it Excel 2000 at work does and Furigana was mentioned.

You could add a smiley face like this click here

The code would be

Sub ToggleSheet()
Sheets("Sheet1").Visible = Not Sheets("Sheet1").Visible
End Sub

I'll give this a try.
