I have a spreadsheet with a column containing values from 0 to 360 which represent wind direction. I want to analyse these by putting them into sectors of NE, SE, SW and NW. I realise that an 'IF' statement is probably the way to do it, but I need to expand that function. Any advice would be appreciated.

It isn't 100% clear what you want or how you want to "expand that function" ?

You could presumably say:

=IF(AND(A1>0,A1<45),"N",IF(AND(A1>=45,A1<90),"N".........

etc.

?

the second "N" should be "NE"

Excellent, that is exactly what I was needing a nudge towards. I wasn't sure if I should 'nest' the IFs, but your example with the comma between showed me the correct way. Thanks very much for your prompt advice.

Excellent! Any time.
