Excel 2003 - Highlighting weekends in colour

Hello,

I've got colum A2 to A251 showing dates from April 26th to 31st December 2008. I'd like the weekend dates to be highlighted in a colour.

Any idea how this can be done?

'if' formula stating days ( ie sat/sun ) and choose a colour?

I can only manage it so far, by adding another column.
In adjacent column (I used column B) add formula =WEEKDAY(A2) (For 1st cell), this will show the day code (1-7). eg A2=1/4/08 and B2=3, drag this down the column.
Select cell A2 and in conditional formatting, format cell based on formula =$B2=7 and format as you please, create a 2nd formula based format where =$B2=1 and format the same. Copy this format to the remaining cells in column A and that should work.
I'm fairly confident someone else might find an easier way. Possibly VBA would be better, but beyond me I think.

what about the find/replace feature?

Just select entire row A and in conditional formatting based on fromula, enter =(WEEKDAY($A1,2)>5)*($A1<>"") and format as required.

"fromula=formula"

Select only cells that require formatting and in conditional format formula box enter
=OR(WEEKDAY($A2)=7,WEEKDAY($A2)=1)
and format accordingly.
