My daughter went to use her laptop and the pointer will not move to click on user. She paid for extended warranty with Evesham , but when she phoned tech services for help , they will not help as company was sold in 2007 .Could someone please advise on possible cause of fault. Thank you for any advice.

Are you saying the cursor will not move ?

Can you try a wireless mouse.

Alternatively, boot into safemode (tapping f8 on startup) and restore to an earlier time using system restore.

Im assuming this is a vista laptop ?

Also check while in safemode,Control Panel and look for any relevance to the touchpad to see if this has been disabled.

Also while in safemode;

startsearch (if Vista) and type MSCONFIG and again look for the touchpad to see if this is disabled from the startup.

xp or Vista ?

Try the above suggestions and if still stuck come back to us.

If you can get into safemode and using MSCONFIG,check for Syntpenh, this is the touchpad..it may have been disabled. This runs alongside the actual touchpad to make configurations easier.

Also goto control panel / Mouse and check the touchpad and touchpad buttons are enabled.

Obviously this all has to be done from safemode.

If no joy from safemode, you may have to boot into the bios and check the settings.

Have fitted a mouse from desk top and it works o.k .Then carried out system restore , but touchpad still inop. Also keyboard inop.Checked keyboard properties and it said STANDARD 101 /102 KEYBOARD OR MICROSOFT NATURAL P - device can not sart (code 10 ) Does this help any ?

Code 10 click here all info is there.

XP or Vista ? it does matter !

Do you have a driver and utilities disc ?

Have you checked in the bios that the keyboard and mouse are enabled.

Try tapping the delete key or F1 or F2 on startup and check if they are disabled. This may take a few attempts.

It is windows xp media centre on computer .It was working o.k but a key might have been accidently touched ptior to closedown. The literature supplied on purchase is minimal and we do not know what a lot of functions on keyboard do. There is a tiny hole on keyboard beside indicator lights / symbols that looks like one of those reset buttons you activate with a point of a pen /pencil . Limited abilities with computers and wary of interfering with bios / settings incase of causing damage. Thank you for any help.

Took laptop to someone I had used before for repair , now fixed . Said it was " a fault on board " only charged £35 ,delighted at service. Very annoyed at daughter paying for extra 3 years cover and now company who purchased EVESHAM have washed there hands of warranty .Many thanks for all help and advice given.
