every thing frozen, but all right now

  anniesboy 09:06 23 Jun 2007

Yesterday whilst typing an email everything froze.
Keyboard not working, cursor not moveable with the mouse.
I switched of at the tower and rebooted,no change initially.
Switched off again rebooted keyboard then worked ,but cursor unmovable.
I nipped to local Argos and purchased a new mouse, bingo everyting works as mormal.
Is this normal behavior for a mouse problem or is there trouble ahead for me?

as no one else has yet asked; what windows version are you on and what protection are you running for starters

and have you yet retried with the other mouse or checked to see if the other mouse needs a clean?

Hello p3
Running xp sp2 Bullguard v7.0 plus AdAware/Sptbot/Superantispyware for occasional scans.
Ive not retried the old mouse but did clean it before purchasing the new one.

I'd prefer to continue as usual believing the mouse was dead. It was suffiently upset to jam the keyboard

The fact that a new mouse worked straight away strengthens this argument.

A basic diagnosis for the demise of the old mouse could be either:
A broken conductor in the cable or at either end.
A component fault in the mouse. Not common but as with any board, possible.

Hey, mice are cheap enough and all is working again, thats one down to experience.

why not retry the now cleaned mouse to see if things are now 'normal'? one might wish to think it IS a simple matter OF a fluffed up mouse

one assumes you have updated and run all your scans and NOT opened any mails you should not have etc?

Cleaned out mouse still not functioning.
Scans show nothing and Ive not opened any dodgy emails.
As everything is fine at present I will tick as resolved and trust that Diemmess thoghts are correct.
Many thanks for thoughts and time.

you killed off the mouse? what was the date on the cheese you last fed it with?::)))

Must have been that old goats cheese that I'm partial to.
I will give a good green burial.
Thanks again
