My computer will not boot up. All the files, folders and applications of my computer have turned into .Ink file extension and I am not able to open any application. Even system restore is in the same form. What could be the reason for that, and how can I restore normal boot up.

Can you start up in Safe mode - repeatedly press F8 during start-up? If so, you could then try System Restore back to before this happened.

In addition to the fixes referred to in the link, if you have Adwatch, it might be best to ditch it.

After a lot of thought pondering I restored the registry to an earlier time using System Mechanic. This seemed to resolve the problem. I would like to know how it happened though. Thanks to Technotiger and accordion for their responses.
