From the gratefully received responses, I now know that I have an American keyboard, Alt 4 doesn't work for me and I have no idea what the GR in Alt GR stands for. But I do have my euro currency symbol. Hoorah!

Thanks

Do you want an American Keyboard - it is easily changed pn the PC?

It should be Ctrl + Alt + 4 (not just Alt+4).

Alt Gr stands for Alternate Graphic - among other things it can be used to type the third character on a key if there is one.

I suppose I have kept with the american keyboard because I knew no better. Is it easy to change to UK?
