Ethernet connection problems

  AlexPB 16:55 05 Mar 2008

We have an Orange Livebox wireless router at home which works fine. The other day i connected my laptop up to it via one of the ethernet ports on the side of the box. The laptop connected straight away and I was able to use the internet. A few minutes after this the connection cut out and on the taskbar at the bottom of the scren the message appeared 'a network cable has been unplugged'. Now the cable had not been unplugged, even so i reconnected the cable and still nothing.

Could somebody please help....

Thank you

Make sure that you tick your Helproom thread now that you have duplicated it here (see forum rules).

You have left out some important info: model of LAN adapter, OS version, and whether you use DHCP or manual IP assignment instead.

First question to start you off: does the adapter's driver support power management and, if so, is Windows turning off power to this device when it believes that it is inactive?

You can check that the Lan card is Enable/Disable from inside the Network Connection Area

Start-Setting-Network Connection-Right click-local Area Connection-Enable or Disable as required

Some times you have to Disable and Enable before the card will work

Other Lan Card Setting

Right click on Local Area Connection Display Icon on task bar

Click Status-General-Properties

At the top of display the type of Lan card will be displayed

Click Configure-Click-Advanced Tab

Click- Flow Control-Change to Enabled if Disabled

Click-Power Management Tab

Untick if selected "Allow Computer to turn this device off to save power

Network Connection Setting

Click-Start- Setting-Network Connection-New Connection Wizard

Select-Connect to the Internet-Next

Select-Set Up My Connection Manually-Next

Select-Connect using a broadband connection that is always on
