Try either Belarc or SIW and see what they say your video card is and post back.
Belarc click here
SIW click here

One thing perhaps I should mention, do you know if you have a seperate graphics card or if its onboard graphics, if its onboard graphics then we'll need to know the motherboard make and model number or if its a branded PC then the make and model of that.
The two programs listed above will give you what you need to know.

You don't email people you answer by replying in the box below.

Now the bits we need are the motherboard make and model which is "Foxconn 945 7MA Series" which is the motherboard ans the display adaptor which is " Intel(R) 82945G Express Chipset Family [Display adapter]".
Now if you have the Foxconn disk that you should have got with your PC you can load that up and reinstall the display adaptor. If not goto click here and download the display adaptor and install that, please note if you download there are two, one for Vista and one for XP (top ones Vista bottom one is XP).

Should have said not sure which 7MA series board you have, theres 5 listed but they all appear to have the same onboard graphics driver. SO it doesn't really matter.
To find out which one you actually have, if you want to, then look at the manual or at the motherboard itself, the model number will be printed on it somewhere.

Its ok its common with new members of the forum.

Download and install the driver, if it works ok tick this as resolved ( you'll see the resolved box ) if the problem is still there then post back.

Forgot about option 2
Right click the desktop, go to properties then settings then advanced, lastly click on troubleshoot and here you will find the hardware accelerator. I don't know exactly what you are doing but since its onboard graphics you have, dropping this a bit might help.

  Shifa's Gran 20:37 27 Nov 2007

have been unable to see anything described as "display adapter" ... is it known as something else ?

  Totally-braindead 12:34 28 Nov 2007

Why are you trying to find it?

I've told you how to find the graphics driver software, to install it all you should have to do is double click on it and regarding dropping the hardware acceleration I've told you how to do that.

Click on START, CONTROL PANEL, SYSTEM, HARDWARE, DEVICE MANAGER and you'll see display adapter listed.

But why do you need to find it?
