Did you come offline and disable your AV program before installing?

try making a folder called office and then copying the cd to that folder. You will have to be able to view hidden files to do it. Then go to control panel add/remove progs and delete any office files found. Reboot and try clicking on setup in the office folder on the hard drive.

I've got ms works installed - do you think that may be a problem?

Do you feel confident in editing registry. If you are then I suggest you do the following:

1. Create a system restore point before attempting to edit the registry.

2.Click on start-->Run and type enter
3.Open Hkey_Local_Machine\software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\Current Version\WinLogon
4. In the right hand pane if the value AllocateCDRoms is set to 1 then change it to 0

Now close the registry and retry installation.
