Erratic cursor

I am running XP Pro on my laptop. During any typing (Word, email etc), the cursor jumps causing typing to overwrite or delete. I have changed the mouse several times, updated the drivers, searched for virus' and removed malware, all to no avail. Does anyone know why this might be happening and what I can do to rectify it?

I may be looking down the complete wrong solution route however, what type of mouse is it? (optical or ball)

I have tried both ball and optical and used both mice on another laptop without any problems. I have also used just the track pad on the laptop and the cursor still seems to have a mind of its own. I have tried updating mice drivers as well but not got to the bottom or even managed to isolate the issue. Any thoughts are greatfully received.

Go to your mouse options in your contol panel and fiddle around with the options
