Move data off it on to something else - an external hard drive, DVDs or something. Uninstall stuff you don't use. Defrag. Possibly format and reinstall.

Firstly backup the important data to an external drive.

Do you have a recovery/Restore disc ?
If so this will enable you to restore to factory settings.
Also check to see if you have a hidden partition with the restore/recovery.Tapping F11 on startup, maybe a different key.

If the data is not needed and you have your windows disc, you could use Killdisk to wipe the drive click here and reinstall windows.

To get a clearer picture of what you need to do, please say:

1) What is the total size of your Hard Disk?
2) What operating system you are using?

Answer to 1) will suggest whether it is possible to make a worthwhile difference by "housekeeping".

Answer to 2) will give a clue about how much space will be needed just to run the OS and the sort of temporary and unneeded files that have built up during use.
