End program - sample

I run on Windows XP. Recently I've suddenly started getting a box up on the screen whenever I go to close down the computer. It says 'End program - sample' and I either wait for it to 'count-down' and disappear, or I can select the 'end now' button. No sooner has that gone that another identical one appears, and only when I've got rid of that does the computer close down. This happens even though I've closed down all pages before switching off the computer.
Can anyone suggest how to rectify this?

I should have said that the second 'end program box' that comes up is headed 'Intel (R) PRONotify manager'
