end of line symbol in Word

I have been asked to get rid of the odd symbol that is appearing at the end of every line in a Microsoft Word program. The symbol looks like two vertical lines about the size of a capital letter and one of them has a little balloon at the top, on the right hand side.

I am sure that this is easy but not if you don't know the answer, and I don't!

Either click the toolbar button that looks like a backwards P or Tools/Options, View tab and untick the formatting marks that you wish to remove.
