Encrypted? emails

  bluto1 23:11 06 Oct 2008

Searching for a particular email joke in it's folder, I started searching from the back forwards. There's about 200 in the folder.(or Should that be file?) I found about 45 of them to be apparently encrypted. Further,a new email, in this AM was the same, just a garble of letters, signs and numbers.
I ran cCleaner, Spybot, A2 and Avast and nothing was found to be amiss.
Anyone got any ideas, please? Your help at sorting this will be appreciated.

Windows XP, SP3, IE7.

I had a good read of your link, and it's more distressing than impressing. I've resolved this by deleting the emails. Thanks again for help.
