Email Trojan again

  johnincrete 04:20 21 Mar 2011

I have been infected by a trojan that sent emails to everyone in my Hotmail contacts list. The undelivered replies was the first I knew about it i.e. Windows Security Essentials did not detect it coming in.
Malwarebytes has removed it.
I do not access dodgy Web sites where one might expect attacks.
I ditched PC Tools Spyware Doctor because it was for ever going wrong & was interfering with Firefox and often freezing my system. I installed WSE as recommended elsewhere on this Forum.
What can I do to prevent this infection again or, if it comes, to detect it before it can do its damage?

Change your password for starters

It sounds as if someone may have hacked into your hotmail account rather than you having a trojan/virus. Change password is a must.
It is also possible that these are spoof e-mail headings purporting to be from you are are from a spammer. The question then is how they got the addresses to everyone in your contacts list so the hacker option is most likely.
