Email receipt

I am using Mozilla Thunderbird for emails with Windows XP.
How can I make the settings so that the person receiving the email has to send a reply to confirm that they have received it.
At present I have to tick a box every time I send an email but I am sure there is a way for this to be permanently on, with the option if I want to change it back at some time of course.
Any advice much appreciated.

Not a good idea.

I had two people who emailed me with that option.

I don't answer them any more. I just delete their emails.

Have a look at MSGTag for automatic read receipts. If you get the paid for version the recipient doesn't even know about it.

Don't know if it works with Thunderbird, though but, if it doesn't, I'm sure they're working on it.
