Email client or website?

Having just set up a Gmail account, I was thinking of setting up Thunderbird to access it. Then I thought, do I need an email client?
I would like to know what others think about the relative merits of email client v Gmail website?

If you have a Gmail account then you don't need to use an email client, you can run it entirely via a web browser. This also means that you can have access to your mail from *any* computer.

I personally much prefer to use an email client and use IMAP protocol, so that all of my mail is available on any of my computers using, in my case, Windows Live Mail.

I personally prefer an e-mail client as I have the address book/contacts on my system which I can update/edit as I like and sync with my mobile phone.

I too use IMAP.

I download GMAIL to Thunderbird (POP3 - only want it on 1 PC) but also leave on server, so if need be can access remotely via webmail
