eFax free service

For many years I have had a free fax number from eFax which enables received faxes to be converted to an email. It isn't used very often at all, but has occasionally been useful. However, I have now received this message from eFax

This is an important service notification regarding your eFax Free number xxxxxxxx.

Due to pending changes imposed by OFCOM, the UK regulator for the telecommunications industry, we will no longer be able to offer eFax Free service for your number as of October 1, 2008.

Does anyone know what the changes being imposed by Ofcom are or whether there will be a free alternative.

IIRC, the 0870 and similar numbers will have to have charges that match the more usual 01, 02 etc.

So there won't be any profit in it...:-)
