Editing Music software

Ive been downloading tunes/themes from youtube to play as background music in a window movies maker (WMM) project im creating.

I wondered if there is a way i can edit this music? or whether WMM is able to do this?
i.e. some are theme tunes which have a bit of speech at the start or end.

David, Thanks for your detailed response, but they download as MPEG4 format and i convert them to MP3 for use in WMM..

Use Audacity as advised above.

Open the mp3 file you wish to edit. Hover your mouse over the start or end of area to be removed and click. A line will appear with a hand pointing a finger.

Drag the hand over the area which will become shaded. At the top right hand side (next to the line in box)click on the scissors icon. Problem area is now removed.

Play the file to check if your edit has been exact. If not, undo and start again. A bit of practice like most editing tasks and you will soon have it spot on.

When satisfied go to File and export as a new Mp3 file to a folder.
