Editing a letter

ive got a letter that iam about to send to previous employer which i typed out & printed it BUT then deleted the folder weeks ago but now i need to send it & all i have is a scan of it in a "Word" folder but i want to edit it & iam finding it very hard to do,the letter is about 4 hours work & i dont want to do it all again is there any software i can buy or better still get freeware that helps me delete & add a few words..?
ive got office pro 03...on my pc...

but your scanner may have Optical Character Recognition (OCR) built in. If it does then you can scan it and save it as a file and word will read it and you can edit it.

Do you have access to a scanner? If so you may be able to use text recognition to convert the document from the scan back into word format... depending on the scan quality, mistakes will need to be corrected, but would be much quicker than a redo from start.
