eBay question

  pj123 15:17 10 Apr 2008

I am watching an item which says:

Private Listing Bidders Identities Protected.

What is all that about?

I tried to contact eBay to ask but their options do not cover that subject.

This is usually done with items that you may perhaps not wish your neighbours to know that you're interested in - condoms, fetish clothing or "adult" toys come to mind.

I have seen it with quite ordinary things, though.

Hi pj123,
This recently adopted option by eBay has been controversial. It was added apparently to reduced fraud although I fail to see how. In fact what aas happened is that it has allowed sellers to get friends or seller with multiple handles to jack up the cost of the item/s on sale. Its called Shill Bidding. Ebay has refused to recognise this and insists on it preventing fraud. It has now made me very cautious when I do bid for an item. When bidding starts very early after a listing and the prioce kept being pushed up over days, be very suspicious.
