E:\ is not a valid win32.exe application

I've installed a LiteOn DH-20A4P DVD RW Drive to replace my old DVD ROM. Whenever I put any DVD in whether it is a magazine cover disk or software I get the error message above.

I downloaded the latest firmware from the absolutely rubbish LiteOn website, and this didn't solve the problem either.

Has anyone got any ideas on how to resolve this. I've already taken two drives back saying that they were faulty. But now I'm beginning to think that it is my PC (an old Advent3509 running XP-Pro-SP2). I think I need to update the drivers on the motherboard.

Cheers

Is this a USB2 and how old is the Laptop, As it needs USB2 to work at full speed. Saying that I have a External USB2 Hard Drive that works OK on Win98se at USB1.1

Hi Woodchip,

It's a desktop PC and the drive is an internal type.

What are you trying to run from the Drive?, i have had this error before in my case it was a faulty cd the contents had become corrupt, this can be if it was somthing you burned to cd or downloded and was a corrupt download.

It sounds like your motherboard does not recognise DVD-RW drives

is it a ide drive or sata

Thanks for all of your posts.

I have managed to resolve this by removing the old CD-RW drive as well. There must have been some kind of conflict between the two drivers.

Cheers
