E-mail disconnecting Internet connection

A friend of mine is running XP Home. Recently, when trying to download e-mail the Internet connection disconnects showing : -

"Port 995 secure (yes).
Socket Error 10060
Error Number 0x800CCC0E

This happens all of the time therefore he has been unable to get e-mail for some time now.

Can anyone help please?

There's a problem with AVG that can give this error. If your friend is using AVG, then look here click here. Alternatively uninstall AVG and install Avast click here

He is using Norton Antivirus

I noticed that the ports are set to 25 and 995.
Should the 995 not be 110?

Some AV programs change the port number and server name to divert emails for scanning. This, I think, is why there are currently so many problems with Error 0x800CCC0E.
