A colleague's son has acquired such a machine[New to me Dell on E-bay what next}
It comes load with Vista- which he dearly would like to get rid and install XP.
So i have asked to see the machine.
Now- What to do?
I could clear the disk and start afresh.
But can I?
Dell I seem to recall play games with their disks.
Or I could put in a partition and thus isolate Vista

What do you think is the best course of action

Read the manual first, it should be accessible by desktop icon. As you say Dell have a variety of ways of putting the OS on the hard drive, some involve hidden partitions and you really need to know what they've done before making any irrevocable changes.

You should be able to Format the Disc and load XP. Or Delete Partitions with Disc Managment software then reset it up. I would do the Later

I will now ask to get the machine to me to have a play.
YUM YUM Vista to play with for free!
Will keep in tough vis new threads if the occasions arise
