dynamic vs static IP: can it be changed in XP Pro

  cosi 15:49 17 Aug 2006

I have been trying to set up remote access to my pc without success. The light bulb in my head went off finally & I realised that, as I am using an ISP that provides for dynamic IP addressing, I probably won't succeed as the address for my PC will keep changing, so I won't know what it is at each attempt to access remotely.

Assuming my presumption is correct (?!), is there anyway of setting up a static address for my PC, even though the router is changing it dynamically on each connection ?

I think that your assumption probably has some basis in fact, but there's not a lot that you can do unless you move to an ISP package that provides a fixed IP.

Use the best little program for remote access: LogMeIn click here

It is free, unless you want to transfer files etc, but there are other ways of doing that.

LogMeIn runs as a server on your pc and keeps in contact with the LogMeIn site. To access your pc remotely, go into the LogMeIn site, put in your username and password and away you go.
