dxdiag and D3D test problem

  Daddysmith 21:54 27 Mar 2003

I have just installed directx v9. When I ran dxdiag to check it over the D3D test won't complete. The message I get is that I am pressing a key to cancel the test, I am not. The other tests DDraw etc all work fine. I believe this is the reason my system keeps crashing or freezing especially when playing games. I have updated the driver for my Ati graphics but I don't think it is compatible with dx v9. I am contacting ati to find out, or am I barking up the wrong tree. Please help only a few of my games support OpenGl(which isn't as good)

To the best of my knowledge only these ATI Radeon cards are DX 9 compatible:-

9600, 9700, 9800 and their Pro versions.

If you have any other, stick with DX 8.1.

I do have a Radeon 9700 Pro, but I still use DX 8.1 since new DX versions so often cause trouble like thet which you are experiencing.

i have a radeon 9000 and it works fine on probs at all.card does not use all the features etc but dx9 is backwards compatable so if you have problems just reinstall it as you cannot remove.
