DVI VGA connectibility

The 19" lcd monitor I wish to buy is DVI, but my Nvidia graphics card only has a VGA connector.

Is it possible to buy a cable or a converter so that I can get the better DVI picture, or do I need to upgrade the graphics card?

You can get a convertor but you will not get the better DVI picture you will get a VGA picture.
Having said that I've seen a monitor connected via VGA and the same monitor connected via DVI and saw no difference. This was some time ago and perhaps things have changed.

If you really want a DVI picture then you need a graphics card with a DVI output.

I guessed that would be the case thanks for the confirmation and prompt reply.
