Ok, I have a spare IDE hard drive seperate to the primary SATA hard drive and a dvd rom which I am trying to connect to the motherboard. I have tried different jumper settings but still cannot figure out how they are meant to be connected.

thanks dan

HDD set as master on end connection of the cable
DVd drve set as slave on the middle connection of the cable.

Make sure cable is pushed firmly home on drives and at moterboard end.

and you have a power connection to both drives.

Check BIOS has IDE controllers enabled.

Boot to windows and the drives should be visable in may computer if not check in disk management.

red wire should face to number 1 on the ide socket, if the sockets do not have a keyway

If you set the hard drive as Master and the DVD as Slave, you can put them on whichever connector is convenient - it makes no difference.

If you have two IDE connectors on the motherboard, put the hard drive on one and the DVD on the other one. In this case set them both to Master and put them both on the end connector. Make sure the hard drive has an 80-wire cable.
