DVD Rom/CD Wtr Combi drive & Error 41

  Giggle n' Bits 20:27 24 Oct 2007

talking about a friends Packard Bell Imedia 3052 running XP Home SP2.

She ended up loosing use of her DVD/CD Wtr Drive and in device manager their were loads of drive entris with yellow exclamation marks. Ok, so I edit registry and followed a online routine by doing something with the registry.

I then performed the Packard Bell factory destructive recovery and all back to normal, 2 weeks later it all happend again.

I again have just fixed it but looking in the device manager below is what I see.

Under the DVD/CD-Rom Drives:-
CD-Rom (This is the DVD/CD Wtr)
H+H DVD-Rom DVD-415Sd SCSI CD Rom Device
H+H DVD-Rom DVD-415Sd SCSI CD Rom Device

Also their is a entry for SCSI & Raid Controllers
H+H Virtual SCSI Controller Sdk

The motherboard is a SiS 962L ua Chipset something I do not rate.

The Drives are ATA EIDE and their is no SCSI Or SATA.

I expect taking the machine back with end up all going awol again in a matter of days or weeks.

So any suggestions why the error 041 can be stopped please on behalf of lady over the road.

No CD/DVD or CD-ROM access is missing error Code 19, Code 31, Code 32, Code 39, or Code 41
Try this if the optical drives are not appearing in My Computer or Device Manager.
(This is sometimes caused by the removal of Roxio or other writing software.)
Download XP_CD-DVD-Fix.zip and save this file to your hard drive. Navigate to where you saved it and double click the file to extract the contents. Locate the EXE file you extracted and double click it. A confirmation dialog will appear when the script is done. You may need to reboot for the change to take effect.
This utility is only intended for Windows® XP. You may need Administrator level access to use this utility. If you do not have Administrator level access, the program will say it is finished, but will not have made any changes.

Run regedit and navigate to registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}.
Highlight it and in the right pane, find the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters values.
Highlight each one in turn, right click and delete them.
Close regedit and restart the computer.
If in doubt make a restore point before making changes.

Thanks for the reply, this is what I did before, after updating the Sonic software which is now owned by Roxio wonder if thats the reason ?

Will try this again, and see how she goes.
