dear all

MY dvd rom drive doesnt open anymore. When i press the eject button the green light flashes and i can hear a noise in that its trying to get out but it just doesnt open. Ive used a safety pin to try open it throught the little hole but that doesnt seem to work as well.

Can anyone help ??

Open My Computer -- right click DVD drive (probably D: or E;) and click "eject".
I'm not being patronising, but using sharp objects on a PC with electricity going round it is kinda dangerous. Unplug the PC; use a thin screwdriver (very carefully) and open the drawer. Sounds like the rubber band which controls the drawer mechanism may have came adrift.

Given that a new DVD-ROM drive cost about £12 click here
may be best to replace if there is a hardware failure,

There is normally a very small hole below the drawer of the CD rom.

Straighten a paperclip and insert into hole.
This will enable you to open drawer without damage.

It's what the hole is for.

Mary_S clearly states she has tried this method without success.

However, the system should always be switched off before attempting to open the drawer in this way (for obvious reasons!)

A somewhat simplistic description...:-)

Your drive should have come with a suitable pin - if not, straighten out a paper clip as this is much better than a safety pin.

Having worked in tech support, there are times when simplicity is not enough. You may like these too.
