dvd recording with linux

I have a dvd re-writer in a PC running Xandros Linux 3.02. It seems to copy CDs o.k. but doesn't recognise DVDs. Should be glad of advice on what I am missing.

You are probably missing the W32codecs.

Open Xandros Networks and click on Edit and open Set Application Sources.....

Then copy and paste each of these to the custom sites

deb click here breezy free non-free

deb click here stable main

Then search for W32codecs.

I've noticed Xandros Networks is off line at the moment, so you might have to try later.

Blast! those damned auto links!

deb http: // packages.freecontrib.org/ubuntu/plf/ breezy free non-free

deb http: // www .debian-multimedia.org stable main

Take the space from either side of the // in the first link and take the spaces out of either side of the // and after the www

Sorry about that.

Your links work OK...:-)

Thanks, but I don't want the links to work! The way Xandros works is those links have got to be placed in the sources.list so the "apt-get install W32codecs" works, it knows where to look for the packages :-)

Hello both, sorry to miss you last evening, I thought you were a Linux user octal. The PC I am using Linux on I don't access the Internet with. Can I d/load the W32 codecs and transfer to the other PC?

There is a Debian or tar package on this site click here

I'm not sure what dependencies it requires via this route, you can try it and see.

Hello octal, thanks for that but I think I'm a bit out of my depth on this, shall have to find out a bit more about Linux, (or stick with the alternative).
