DVD player to PC monitor connection.

I do not have/want TV but want to watch DVD films.
My PCs are probably a bit too slow for satisfactory viewing and I do not wish to do expensive upgrades. I would like to buy stand-alone DVD player and watch the films on my PC monitors.
My queries... Is it simply a matter of the cable connections - or is it also an incompatability between the video output of the player and the VGA/DVI input of monitor? Can anyone advise please, as every retailer I approach just cannot help?
In hope, EFDEE.

Out of interest, what is the spec of your machine? Anything from about 350Mhz and 64 mb ram will play a DVD satisfactorily - I have seen it done with no problems on a celeron 366 with integrated graphics.
