DVD playback - fast running motor

  Procrastinus 05:17 26 Nov 2008

On DVD playback the motor of the player runs at 'high' speed all the time. I notice that on my other computer (Dell), the motor slows once it has found it's track and is inaudible during playback. Am I missing some software - it is a pretty standard DVD ROM with Win XP?

Is it not just the fan coming on?

If it is only one disk then it sounds like the disk is corrupted, you have not made clear whether you are talking about 2 pc's or a pc + a stand alone dvd player.

Do you have Nero burning on your machine?
In nero tool kit there are options to change the drive speed.

Sorry, lofty29 - I have two computers with XP, A Dell with quiet DVD playback an Evesham with noisy playback. ie noise from a fast running DVD player motor all the time of playback.
Thanks Fruit Bat /\0/\ - No I don't, but will give it a try. Have you seen the HUGE manual on the external link! Will take me time to digest that.

I'm running Nero 6 drive speed gives me two options

fast (max read speed of drive)52x
quiet x24

run mine on quiet as there is a horrible noise on full speed especialy with cheap discs
