Usually the software to play the DVD (Power DVD) has an eject option click with mouse.

In 'My Computer' you can right click the drive and select eject

Opening is easy, just right click on the drive in Explorer and chose Eject from the context menu. Closing is harder as you will need a program to use the Windows API (application program interface), or a VB script talking to ActiveX to do it.

Here's one I cribbed earlier:

Example to close CD-ROM draw

Dim oATO : Set oATO = WScript.CreateObject("wshAPIToolkitObject.ucATO", "")

Const ssfDRIVES = &H11 ' namespace constant(drives folder = 17)...
Const cdromDrvLtr = "G:\" ' specify your cd-rom drive letter...

Set oSH = CreateObject("Shell.Application")

' close cd-rom drawer...
nRtn = oATO.CallAPI("WINMM.DLL", "mciSendStringA", "Set CDAudio door
closed", 0, 0, 0)

The formatting has gone to pieces but a programmer will understand.

If you go to 'My Computer' and right click the drive icon, you can create a shortcut to eject. This will put a shortcut on the desktop that will open the tray. I assume that if you open the tray you will put in or remove a CD, then just lightly push the tray and it will then close.

Clicking the eject button on the DVD player software will both open and close the tray!!!
