is it just one particular movie or all movies?
normally if all other programs work fine, then its probably something you just missed on your dvd player program, what you running it off?

unfortunately all the movies(dvd,mpeg,divx..)
at first i thought the sound cable of the CD/DVD drive is not connected properly but ive checked that is connected properly(as the audio cds plays with no probs)

You could have the wrong codec's installed or the DVD drivers could be corrupt. It's best to reload the drivers from the disc that came with the drive first then install a codec pack such as nemo lite, a search in Google will turn up hundreds of codec packs.

With the codecs you need to have the player software such as Win DVD installed first before you run the codec.

Incidently you should be running DVD playing software such as WinDVD or PowerDVD Again you can find them easily with a search.
