DVD films will not play

Relatively new Vista PC with Media Player. This is is the first time I've tried to play a 'movie', but Media Player says it is playing, but nothing on screen.

What's up?

if you go into device manager does it say it is working properly?

Yep. It does everything else perfectly.

could be a codec issue (file type not recognized)

  Graham. 23:26 16 May 2009

Thanks for that. I shouldn't need to install separate utilities, should I?

Media Player opens OK but nothing appears, it just says it is playing. I've tried home made and original DVDs.

See click here it is for XP but should also apply to Vista.

Also take a look at click here

Vista Ultimate and Home Premium include the codec for DVDs. Vista Home Basic and Business do not.

still could be a codec issue, won't hurt to download them anyway...

I can get DVDs to play by 'Open with' Media Player, always use this program. I just need it to Autoplay.

'Play CDs... automatically' set in Control Panel.
