DVD drivecompatibility

New computer / old DVD drive compatibility probs.

I just bought a new HP Pavilion Media Center TV m7775.uk-a PC (RS921AA) and have an older XP based HP 635i DVD Drive, but the connections at the back are different.

The 635i has a ribbon and power, yet the new comp seems to only have a power supply?

Advice Please?

click here your machine has SATA HDDs and DVD drives fitted hence the different cables from your old IDE DVD drive.

Hi and thanks, but does this mean my old drive wont work in my new machine? is there an adapter?

It will if the motherboard has an IDE connector.

If you boot to BIOS you may see an option for an IDE controller.

"I just bought a new"

Opening the case to fit your old drive may invalidate the warrenty!

Your machine has a DVD light scribe writer fitted, why to you want to fit you old drive aswell?

If you really need your old DVD drive and don't want to risk the warranty, you could put the drive in an external USB caddy - I have an external DVD burner AND an external CD burner for reasons to complicated to explain here.

I do use both drives simultaneously doing the odd copy of disk to disk. Old CD to new DVD. Now I will just have to copy thm to the HDD and then place the onto DVD later. Thanks for the info.
