The drive is an LG DVD-ROM DRD-8160B The firmware is version 1.01 (Latest official version) It is set to Region 2 I'm running Windows XP with the standard 'cdrom.sys' driver and so on.
I must admit I don't normally play DVDs on this PC but I have done in the past without a problem at the optical drive end (I didn't have a soundcard in this machine; I've now just put an old Audigy in). I definitely have watched a couple of films on it before.
I've just tried to play another (region 2) film (I use PowerDVD) and it doesn't work. The DVD drive didn't recognise any disk at all ('Please insert a disk into drive D:').
I therefore put a DVD I have definitely played before into the drive: same problem. I've tried putting a CD in and it works fine.
I'm miffed. Any suggestions? I have installed some different software onto the PC since I last played a DVD - is anything likely to have caused this problem? I hope someone can help,
