DVD drive will not open

  kumo22 00:22 24 Mar 2007

I have an acer laptop. The DVD drive will not open, whether I try the "eject" option from windows explorer or manually press the button on the drive itself. It makes the right noises but does not open.

Before I incur a cost having the laptop looked at, does anyone have any suggestions.

Is there another way to open it?

Try inserting a thickish needle in the little hole beside the button on the drive door. Might release it.

Yes, try Al94's soloution. This works for me whenever this happens.

Had the same problem, and hate to say it was the start of the demise of my PSU. Hope it isnt this but thought i would advise of my experience. In my case the drive was not listed in 'My Computer'

ps - but turn off computer first!!

The little hole already mentioned, is in fact put there for the very purpose of opening drive in such circumstances.

Eh! how did that happen - my last two posts came out wrong way round?? I did not type the PS first!

Another PS - I always use a large straightened-out paper-clip.
