Has nayone got a driver for a sony vaio PCG-GRV616S DVD writer. My machine says the driver is lost or corrupted and I cannot find the installation discs to reinstall it. I have tried the Sony Vaio site but they dont have the driver available for download.I'd appreciate any help/ideas or more so the actual driver!
What O/S do you have?
Windows XP Pro
XP Pro will probably have the driver. If you go to Device Manager and remove the DVD burner.Reboot the machine and let XP automatically install the drivers.
I tried this and I had no luck.It says the driver is corrupted or missing?
I have checked the Sony site and it confirms that the drivers are only on XP.If your XP installed drivers are corrupted then you will need to reinstall them from your XP Pro disk. This may be acheived by running the system file checker utility.Insert your XP disk in the drive.Do Start > Run and type cmd then click OK.At the prompt type sfc /scannow and hit return.Once the process is complete do what I said at 12.21 and see if that helps.
Thanks for the help and I am about to go into work to pick up the discs but I have one question. How do I intentd to install the drivers of XP pro disc if my disc drive is not working?
Good point. If you go to Device Manager and look at the properties of the DVD. Go to Driver tab and click on 'Driver Details'.Make a list of the driver files listed and post them here. They are small files and it would be possible to e mail them to you.
Thanks for your help mate. I reinstalled XP Pro and everything fine now.
How did you reinstall without your drive working?
