DVD drive in place of CD write drive

Have replaced my CD RW drive in my PC XP with a pioneer DVR-111 writer but when I have placed a DVD+RW disc in and try saving nothing happens (I can write to a CD RW disk OK).
What do I need to do?

I think you need to format the disk first.

Windows XP does not have its own DVD burning software. You need something like Nero to be able to write to DVDs.

As €dstowe points out you need Nero or similar but you would be able to write to/erase the disk without formatting, unless you wished to use it in the same manner as a hard drive.

I have seen on ebay Nero 7 for sale at £7.99 to £44.95 the boxes they show and info on them seem to be the same ! Can they be ?

Buy Nero6 at very low prices from SVP or similar outlets and update free of charge on the Nero website right up to the final release.

Have bought Nero 6 OEM as suggested (£6.69 with mains lead) and just installed it but I cannot write from PC to DVD+RW. Have no paper work with disc so I am at a loss what to do next , any suggestions please?

Am not too sure, but i think to write to a rw disc you have to create a multi session disc in nero

In between cheering on Leona, it would be interesting to learn just how...:-)
